Week of Sept. 16th-20th

Hello 4th Grade Town Center Families! Please see below for class updates and reminders: 

Curriculum Night Presentation
Thank you so much for coming out to Curriculum Night yesterday! Please click hereto view the curriculum night presentation if you missed it and would like to be updated. Contact your homeroom teacher regarding questions or additional information. 

Home Access Center (Parent Portal)
Many parents at Curriculum Night were wondering about how to access the Home Access Center login. Our secretary, Laura Fairchild, has let us know that you are able to log in to this link using the same login you used for summer registration (Infosnap was the previous name). You should be able to try the "forgot password" button if the login is not working. You can also try putting in a help ticket with the link on the site if the login is not working. 

Schoology
If you are interested in creating a parent account for Schoology please see this helpful Google Doc for more information. 

Google Calendar
*We were made aware that the Google calendar may have not been viewable for our parents. It is now public; however, it may not be compatible on phones (only on iPads, laptops and/or computers). We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
You may have noticed that we have a Google Calendar embedded at the top of this blog. We will keep this calendar updated with important dates throughout the year, so please be sure to check it whenever you visit our blog.

Sonic Night Fundraiser is Tuesday, September 24th. 






In Writing, we will continue working on personal narratives and revising our writing. We will test for spelling words with VCe (vowel and consonant and e) syllables and will explore all nouns using our mentor sentence.

In Reading, we will continue our lessons on growing ideas about characters. explore the learning progressions and use rubrics to set reading goals. Learners have come home with the learning progressions and self assessment rubrics. Please click here for a digital copy of the learning progressions. 

In Math, we will begin looking at place value to the hundredths place.

In Science, students are going to begin exploring measuring tools in science. They will first complete a "crash course" on how to use various measuring tools, such as mass, volume, buoyancy, etc. Then using this knowledge and skills, they will work through measuring stations for a few days. 

In TX History, students are continuing to learn about the four regions of Texas through their Cornell Notes. As a way to make connections, students will complete a Hexagonal Thinking activity.

If your child expressed interest in our after school Robotics club, they should have come home with an application with detailed information. Applications are due on Monday, September 9th to Ms. Rice or Ms. Burks. 

Book Fair
Our Fall TCE Book Fair will be September 9th-13th. They are looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested, please sign up using the link below. 

Picture day is Thursday, September 5th. 

Book Fair begins Monday, September 9th and will go on all week!

Special Friends Day is Friday, September 13th from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.

In Math, we will wrap up our unit on place value of whole numbers to the billions. Please be on the outlook for an email with a Google presentation to help your learner review for the post assessment on Friday, September 5th.

In Science, we will be learning about the three states of matter. Through the exploration we will study what happens to an ice cube when it is on the hot sidewalk, and then what happens to that puddle as the day goes on. We will continue to use the four physical properties of science. 

In Reading and Writing, learners will be able to identify different ways they can respond to reading by practicing different techniques. They will also explore how rubrics and learning progressions help improve skills and assess their progress. We will review spelling words with open syllables. 

In Social Studies, we will continue our discussion on the regions of Texas. Using Cornell notes, learners will explore the characteristics of each region of Texas.

Town Center Curriculum Night will be Thursday, August 29th from 6:30-7:30 PM in the cafeteria. During Curriculum Night, we will share a short presentation that will cover important curriculum details and procedures for the year. We would love it if you could be there! We will also share our presentations on this blog, so if you are unable to make it to Curriculum Night, we will still be able to share the information with you.

Picture day is Thursday, September 5th.

Special Friends Day is Friday, September 13th. We will send out more information about a time frame for 4th grade.

First Week of School

We had an outstanding first week of school! We have loved getting to know our new fourth graders, and we are looking forward to a fantastic year.
