Week of May 22-26

Hello TCE Families! This will be our last 4th grade blog post of the year. It's been another great week in C-Hall, and we are looking forward to ending the school year off right next week!

In Math this week, we have been completing an assortment of math activities that have reviewed our content from this school year, such as a Decimal Challenge and our Math Adventure Stories. Some students even had the chance to figure out math problems pertaining to the length of the school year!

In Language Arts and reading, we have been working on a research based project based on your learner's passion. They are writing open-ended questions, gathering data and creating charts, and researching information from databases. The learners are also creating advertisements using persuasive techniques. We will be finishing up by presenting our research projects.

In Social Studies, we are learning about the hardships of Texas after the Civil War. We will be finishing up with the cattle drive and railroad industry.

In Science this week, learners have been wrapping up their TCE Garden Design Challenge. Please see some examples below of the great work our learners have been doing!

On Wednesday, May 31st, we will be having a board game day. Your learner may bring a board game from home to share at school if they would like. Please have them bring games that are not using technology and can be played by 2 players or more. Thank you!

Thursday, June 1st will be an early release day. The dismissal bell will ring at 12:50. Please be sure that your learner has a way home at that time. Thanks!

Math and STAAR Reading

Third and fourth grade will be taking the Math STAAR test Monday, May 8th and the Reading STAAR test Tuesday, May 9th. It is very important that your child comes to school on these days. Just like when we took the Writing STAAR, there are no visitors allowed in the building this week. You can drop anything off at the office if you need.  Just some friendly reminders:
  • Please have your child eat a healthy breakfast so they can focus.
  • Your child will be provided with snacks, so they do not need to bring one from home. They may bring a water bottle.
  • Your child will need to bring books with them to read after the test.
  • We will be testing first thing in the morning, so it is essential that your child is on time.
  • There will be no more tutoring this school year starting the week of May 8th.
