Week of November 26th-30th

Hello 4th Grade Town Center Families! Please see below for class updates and reminders: 

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Volunteering Opportunities
If you are interested in supporting our school, volunteering with the PTO is a great way to do it. Our board president, Casey Conley, is currently looking for volunteers that would be willing to help out with our school garden, spring book fair, and spring fundraiser. If you are interested in finding out more or signing up to help out, please email her at cconley24@gmail.com. Anyone is welcome!

Six Flags Read to Succeed
We sent home reading logs this week for the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program. These forms will be due February 19th, 2019. If your child completes six hours of reading, they will receive a free ticket to Six Flags!

The Lion's Club
The Lion's Club of Coppell provides holiday food baskets & toys to those in need. If you'd benefit from this assistance, please click the link, complete, & turn into our nurse, Sue Kane, by Dec. 5th. The information will be shared with the Lions Club.


CGA Writing Competition (Optional)
The Coppell Gifted Association is gearing up for its annual writing competition. Below are a few reminders about the learner portion. 
- FREE for Coppell ISD students to enter.
- Open to any student in grades 4-12.
- Deadline for submissions: December 7, 2018
- Categories: STORY and POETRY

 
*TCE Giving Tree starts December 3rd and ends the 19th.
*TCE PTO Family Night Movie Night will be Friday, December 7th at 6 PM.
*The Jingle Bell Run will be Friday, December 14th at 9:30!
*The 4th grade winter party will be Thursday, December 20th at 2:00!
*Our second spirit rally will be Friday, December 21st!
*There will be early release for all learners on Friday, December 21st at 12:15.





In Math, we will focus on comparing fractions, equivalent fractions, and benchmark fractions. We will explore fractions through hands-on experiences. Moreover, we will continue working on our holiday recipes that cover all of our skills that we have learned in fractions.

In Science, we will continue our unit on Renewable and Non-renewable resources. 

In Reading and Language Arts, learners will begin a poetry unit, where we will explore different types of poetry as well as find the deeper meanings behind poems. We will also be writing our own poems. Moreover, we will study double consonants in the middle of words and start exploring simple sentences.

In Social Studies, we will be exploring the conflicts between Mexico and Texas that will lead to the Texas Revolution.

Week of November 12th-16th

We have had a fantastic start to November, and the kids definitely deserve a break! The 4th grade team wanted to extend a warm and happy Thanksgiving to all of our families!

Week of November 5th- 9th

PTO Meeting Updates:
The PTO is in need of volunteers for their various committees, including Green Team and Dad's club. If you are interested in volunteering please check out their website: https://towncenterpto.membershiptoolkit.com/ 

Also, if you are not receiving PTO e-mails please register your e-mail address on their site. Due to privacy reasons homeroom teachers cannot share your e-mail addresses with PTO, so in order to receive their messages you will need to sign up separately. You can do this through their site as well. 

Lost and Found
Please take some time before Thanksgiving Break to check our lost & found area outside the cafeteria for missing items.

*The Turkey Trot will be Friday, November 16th during 4th Grade Specials (9:30-10:20am). Parents are welcome to come watch learners run! 

*Thanksgiving Break is November 19th-23rd







In Math, we will be continuing our fraction unit with beginning to look at adding and subtracting fractions and finding equivalent fractions. 

In Science, we will be starting our next unit on Earth's resources next week. 

In Reading and Language Arts, learners will publish their expository writing over a special person in their lives, and then we will begin a new expository topic. We will continue to learn on how to build deeper interpretations of fictional texts. Our spelling focus will be words that follow the i before e pattern, and our grammar focus will be using quotation marks. 

In Social Studies, we will continue our unit on early Europeans and settlements in Texas. We will discuss the motivations and impact of Spanish and French explorers, as well as discuss Spanish Missions.

Week of October 29 - November 2

Hello 4th Grade Town Center Families! Please see below for class updates and reminders: 

Veteran's Day Program
Town Center will be holding a Veteran's Day program to honor all past and present veterans. Papers were sent home today with learners for honoring veterans. If someone in your family is or was a veteran, please fill out the form and return them back. We also are extending an invitation for veterans to be honored in our Veteran's Day Program at 9:00 AM in the TCE Gym. Veterans will need to check in the office by 8:45 AM!

In Math, we have been diving right into fractions this week. Learners have been exploring how to represent fractions and compare them to decimals. We are excited to use some excited tools to explore fractions next week, like the GarageBand app and the Ozobots!

In Science, we are continuing our Earth's surface unit. This week we have been working on an Argument-Driven Inquiry Lab about Water Erosion. We will wrap up our Earth's Surface unit next week. 

In Reading and Language Arts, learners will continue writing an expository text over a special person in their lives, then begin a new expository topic. We will also be wrapping up our unit over analyzing and interpreting characters. Our spelling focus will be silent letters and our grammar focus will be adverbs. 

In Social Studies, we will continue the motivations and impact of Spanish and French explorers, as well as discuss Spanish Missions.
