Week of May 20th-23rd

We just wanted to thank all of the fourth grade families for a great school year! We have loved having your children and feel privileged that we were able to teach them this year. Have a fantastic summer!

Report Cards
Please check your learner's report card for their grades and updates for math, reading, and writing!

Cozby Summer Reading
In order to help prevent the loss of literacy skills that your child has learned this school year (known as "summer slide"), it is important that your child reads every day for at least 20 minutes. In order to raise lifelong readers, we have to let reading be fun. Reading is most enjoyable for children if they get to choose what they read and when they get to read with the adults in their family. Please, visit the Cozby Public Library and read together so that reading feels like important and special family time.

During summer the Cozby Public Library and Community Commons organizes weekly activities and programs for children, teens, and the whole family.  Visit the Cozby Library Events Calendar (link below) and read Summer Reading Programs flyer (attached) for more information.

Week of May 6th-10th

Hello 4th Grade Town Center Families! This coming week will be the STAAR Test. Please read the reminders below for these assessments.

Library Books
All library books were due back to the library on Friday, May 10th. Please ensure your child has turned in all of their books. Any books that are lost or damaged need to be paid for.

STAAR Math and Reading Assessments
The STAAR Math Assessment will be on Monday, May 13th and our STAAR Reading Assessment will be Tuesday, May 14th. Please ensure that your learner gets a good night's sleep, has a healthy breakfast, and arrives at school on time. There will be no visitors this week due to testing. Please call the office if you need anything.
Your learner can practice some reading vocabulary terms here and also practice strategies for the test here.

End of the Year Conferences
It is hard to believe that we are already in our last nine weeks of the school year. Time has flown by so quickly with these amazing learners!

The district is unable to set aside a day for spring parent/teacher conferences, but we are happy to make time to answer any questions or concerns you may have. You recently received your learner's third nine weeks report card, which provided you with an update on how your learner is doing in class. We will also be sending home your learner's end of year assessment summary sheet, along with a summer packet of resources and ways to support your learner over the break. The assessment summary sheet will show you their current levels in both Language Arts and Math, as well as the benchmark. This will show you your student's growth and progress throughout the school year!

If you would like to discuss any questions or concerns regarding your learner and would like a conference (via email, phone or face-to-face) please email your child's homeroom teacher. What a JOY it has been to have these learners this year! *We are unable to discuss 5th grade class placements for next school year. Please keep questions related to your learner's academic and emotional growth from the 2018-2019 school year.*

In Science, we will continue our life science unit by exploring food chains and food webs.

In Reading and Language Arts, we will continue practicing our reading comprehension skills using fiction and nonfiction texts to prepare for our upcoming state assessment. As a reminder, we will take the Reading 4th grade STAAR test on Tuesday, May 14th.

In Social Studies, we will finish discussing how Texas created a government for the Republic and see how that contributed to Texas's growth and changes in the 20th century.
Playing Gimkit for vocabulary review!
