Week of October 11-14

We had another great week down in C-Hall! Check out all of the great things we are learning and doing below:

In Math this week we wrapped up our Place Value unit with our Place Value Project Presentations. The learners really enjoyed getting to try out some new apps and programs like Biteable, Canva, and Thing Link! We also began practicing and discussing some addition and subtraction strategies and took our pre-test over our new unit.

In Science this week, we continued our explorations on electricity and magnetism with our Ports activities. The learners created a vocabulary Padlet with electricity words, examples, and pictures among many other activities.

In reading, learners explored non-fiction texts. Learners read with the mindset of learning new information by understanding the purpose of text features, summarizing the main idea, and pinpointing the main ideas of a non-fiction text. Moreover, based on their passion and interest, learners self-selected non-fiction texts that they have never read before.

In social studies, learners compared and contrasted two regions of Texas. Learners wrote a blog post expanding on their knowledge. This activity was differentiated so that each learner was able to maximize their knowledge on the regions of Texas.
