Week of October 31st

Can you believe it's already November?! Please read the whole blog to see our updates for the week!!

In Reading, we started our unit on making inferences and context clues. They learned how to make inferences by using text clues and their schema. The learners inferred what motivated the character Vola from our Global Read Aloud book, Pax.

In Language Arts, we focused on proper nouns in our mentor sentence. We are also still working on subject and predicates. The learners have begun writing their expository text on someone special in their life. We worked on our brainstorming strategies and quality reasons.

In Math, we began our unit on personal finance. We looked at the differences between fixed and variable expenses. We also began to talk about different reasons to start saving your money early, including saving for a college education. The learners picked out potential places they would like to attend college and found the tuition for a year.

In Social Studies, we started our new unit over the early history of Texas!! Learners worked on Lesson 1 of our online textbook. The learners learned about the possible origins of the first people to arrive in Texas.

In Science, we continued to explore circuits.  Our goal this week was to design a circuit that could run a motor and light a light bulb.  Make sure to visit your learners Google Site for pictures and videos of the circuits they have designed.
