Week of January 23rd-27th

We had another wonderful week here down C Hall. It has been an eventual week filled with lots of learning.

In Reading, the 4C/D/E rotation read Thank You Ma'am and explored various learning stations that enhanced our reading experience. Learners chose head in the cloud writing prompts as a way to respond to the text in a way that is meaningful to them. Moreover, learners applied vocabulary words using Frayer Models. In connection to our poetry unit, learners compared and contrasted Thank You Ma'am to a poem called Miss Stone. In the 4A/B rotation, learners continued exploring the various elements of poetry. Learners applied explicit and implicit questioning, and they learned and examined the elements of figurative in the context of poems, such as imagery.

In Writing, learners continued going through the writing process to strengthen their understanding and application of expository prompts. Learners were introduced to revising and editing skills as well.

In Social Studies, we have continued talking about the early European explorers. Learners are diving deeper into the exploration and colonization of Texas.

In Math, learners worked on their multiplication hexagonal thinking. Learners were able to see how multiplication is intertwined with various skills. In addition to understanding what multiplication means, learners practiced applying their multiplication skills using word problems.  Learners were introduced to various strategies to ensure that they were maximizing their efficiency and effectiveness in solving problems.

In Science, learners reflected on the different types of matter by going through the expository writing process. This week learners started explorations that were based on mixtures and solutions.
