Week of January 30th- February 3rd

This week down in C-Hall was another great one! See below for some of the great things your learners are doing:

In Reading, learners continued to explore poetry, and we started talking about drama. We wrapped up and applied our knowledge on figurative language and different aspects of poetry. Moreover, we have began exploring drama as well. Learners answered explicit and implicit questions that required higher level thinking and critical reasoning.

In Writing, learners started a new prompt and went through the writing process. They brainstormed, planned, and wrote out their developed ideas to a specific writing prompt. Learners applied their knowledge of editing and revising using mentor sentences.

In Social Studies, we continued talking about exploration and colonization of Texas. More specifically, we talked about LaSalle and his exploration to the Americas that led to his unexpected journey to Victoria, Texas. Learners also learned about the early Spanish settlements and missions in Texas.

In Math, learners continued learning about multiplication and various strategies they can use to maximize their efficiency with solving multiplicative problems. We learned about doing multiplication using the 'box' method, the standard algorithm, and using estimation techniques. Moreover, learners are examining the ways that they can apply multiplication in meaningful ways.

In Science, learners dived deeper into learning about matter. They continued learning and applying their knowledge using learning ports. Moreover, learners have just started talking about Earth science and its resources.

This week fourth grade had the privilege to meet and work with guest speakers from DTCC. Guest speakers came in and shared what coding is and looks like in the real world. Moreover, they worked with our learners to develop codes with hands on and enriching learning experiences. Please see below for the awesome time our learners had.
