Week of February 6th-10th

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog.  There is a lot of important information in this post. As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

In Reading, we finished up our unit on Poetry. We reviewed the various element of poetry in order to wrap up our unit on a positive Learners explored the differences among prose, drama, and poetry. Moreover, learners practiced applying their knowledge and skills by creating a Rhombus Poem that related to Texas History.

In Social Studies, learners continued diving deeper into the early exploration and colonization of Texas. Learners used the explorers that they have learned about, such as Cabeza de Vaca, Francisco Coronado, Jose de Escandon, or Sieur de La Salle, in order to create their own Rhombus Poem. Learners are continually exploring the uniqueness of Texas through various extension activities.

In Writing, learners started a new mentor sentence that required learners to apply their revising and editing knowledge and skills. Learners also went through the writing process by answering an expository writing prompt. We learned a new peer editing technique called clocking.

In Math, learners learned and practiced input- output tables and dived deeper into estimations in relation to the input-output tables. Moreover, learners explored the relationships among tables and practice word problems.

In Science, learners have worked on their impact learning ports. We have started talking about resources in a way that is authentic and meaningful to our learners.
